Dan-cheong
The wood and hanji absorb the fragrance oil, allowing the scent to naturally fill the space.
Dan-cheong refers to the traditional decorative coloring applied to wooden structures in Korean architecture, such as pillars, beams, and ceilings.
The term originates from the Chinese characters dan (red) and cheong (blue), and is characterized by the use of the five traditional colors—blue, red, yellow, white, and black—known collectively as the Obangsaek (Five Cardinal Colors).
Dancheong is not merely ornamental; it is a comprehensive art form that combines preservation, function, symbolism, and aesthetic harmony.
